Project Runway Allstars–Miss Piggy Episode!

Oh Snarkers, how do I love me some Miss Piggy.  I have long been a fan of her Miss Pigginess.  She is a diva among divas and can out-diva the best.  Now, I have always thought her very Jayne Mansfield and Mae West rather than Marilyn Monroe or Dolly Parton.  She is Divine.

However, having said all that, I was a bit lazy with the pic taking tonight and only did the top three and bottom three. Please forgive.  It has been a strange week, you won’t even believe what I’ve been up to, but more on that in another post.

First up:  Austin Scarlett.  If he wasn’t Austin Scarlett, he’d have gone home this week.  This dress was not apropriate for the challenge.  It was not flattering even on a stick insect model.  Totally agree that it was more Pigs in Space than Red-Carpet worthy Piggy wear.  Too too much design to be flamboyant.  Hated everything about it.

Rami had a beautiful Southern Belle dress that screamed Piggy.  Agreed with the judges that in any other challenge, we’d be thinking WTF … but in this instance, for this client, it was spot-on.  Pun intended.  The colors were perfect.  To me, however, it was a bit TOO MUCH of a Southern Belle look.  Methinks Miss Piggy might need a bit more sophistication.  He was top two, though, and well deserved.

Gordana went home for the pink dress left below.  I actually liked this dress and think if she had fabbed it up with just the right belt and other accessories, this might have worked much better.  Very cute dress, but yes, as Joanna Coles said, it was a bit nightgownish.  She could have cut a bit more daring of a neckline and glammed this up.  Potential, but seeya Gordana, you didn’t go far enough.

Michael C won the challenge with the unexpected – a dress that was not costume but fabulous in many ways.  The ribbons/bow on the bustline is diva indeed.  The hat was Royal Wedding worthy.  The zip up the back was a super-young touch, which face it, suits Miss Piggy because she is timeless.  Good on ya, Michael C, everyone always loves to count you out, but you have always been a fave of mine.

Mila was bottom two with this dress that she designed for Marlo Thomas in That Girl instead of Miss Piggy.  Cute dress.  I’d wear it to work tomorrow just as presented.  Love the vibe.  But not red carpet Piggy wear at all.  Agreed with the judges that she designed a dress for her own collection instead of for the challenge.  Which has been one of our criticisms of P.R. many times, eh snarkers?   Mila, I’d have sent you home instead of Gordana.  Although, come to think of it, Gordana did the same thing.  Designed her own thing, not a dress for Miss Piggy.  Hmmm.   Now I’m confused on who I would send home.

Kenley was Top Three for the cute pink and white bouncy dress with giraffe motif.  Cute but not inspired.  Predictable in all ways.  Loved that Miss Piggy thought she could go home and use the hat for a pot scrubber after the event.   Kenley missed a chance to here.  She could have ooompfed this up quite a bit.  A little bedazzling on the border/top of that bodice might have gone a long way.

I think if anyone bothered to research the client, they would have found that Miss Piggy wears very normal clothing.  She vamps it up, for sure.  But she also tones it down.  While the pink giraffe and pink/orange dots were cute, the clever design was the one that DIDN’T treat her like a Muppet.  And that’s what won the day for Michael C.

Miss Piggy is beyond Muppets.  She transcends Muppets.

Pam, I'm clearly not as up on Miss Piggy's tastes as you are. But I agree about a bunch of what you said. Austin would not have stayed if he were not Austin. Or unless his dresse looked a whole heckuvva lot less worse in person than it did on TV. Still, I would have auf’d inflexible b&w Mila before Gordana. On the “top” side, I was a bit surprised Rami didn’t win over Michael C., and I think I liked Kenley’s dress more than you did. I am also starting to realize I have an unfair bias toward the Bravo All-Stars. I just haven’t watched PR as much since it went to Lifetime, or developed as much of a fan-girl bond with those designers as I did back in the day.

But my overall reaction to this epi: Was this not the most bizarre episode of PR ever? And the contestants said all that stuff about Miss Piggy and product placement with straight faces? I liked that stylist dude judge’s rapport with Miss Piggy, and he was genuinely amusing. But there was something creepy about the lack of irony in tonight’s show.

My mother was actually a HUGE Miss Piggy fan, and I chose my blog moniker--Moi--because of it. Me, I tend to think Miss P. is awfully hard on Kermie, but you have to admire her joie de vivre.

That being said, I agree with Eggy that this was a totally bizarre episode lacking in irony and humor.

What it was, was an opportunity for these folks to show off their costuming skills (although, I suppose the questions should be: WHY?) and most of them failed miserably at that. Rami's dress has to be the most gawd-awful thing I've ever seen, but it worked for the challenge. Michael C's dress was something that perhaps could be worn IRL (if, say, you're a Hilton or a Kardashian), but otherwise, yes, totally Pig Worthy. The rest of the dresses were just that: dresses. And bad ones at that.

I would have had a tough time choosing between Mila and Gordana. I like both their work very much. Maybe I would have taken the leap and sent Austin S. home. That thing was so awful I couldn't even look at it. But here's the thing: Mila at least made a wearable dress. Gordana did not. She made a nightgown for a Victoria's Secret window display. If it were 5 inches shorter.

so it really happened then, it wasnt a flashback? terrible worthless challenge. I hated austins hideous ugly colored dress. as for Mila -whats it to you, beeeyotch, if kara and kenley have a rapport and play well together? if your aggrevation is that it is a competition? then so much the better for you right? I 'spect you are feeling a bit left out of the loop and threw some aloof bitchery on it to disguise your feelings of rejection. and that ladies and gents, is your dime store Freudian analysis for the day. ba dum da bump!

Miss Piggy notwithstandin', what on earth wuz the point of this challenge??

Still, given what the Challenge wuz, Rami is mah fav for it--agree wif' Pam.

All in all, I see less an' less of anything I'd wear on PR as season go by.

Eggy! Thanks for coming to snark. Hopefully the season will give us something worth snarking about. PR hasn't been as good since it went to Lifetime, but at least it is still there. Watered down maybe but still kicking.

Moi: Peggy Lee! That's who I was trying to think of last night. I think that is who Miss Piggy was patterned after ... Peggy Lee. Glad you agree about Austin Scarlett's dress being hideous.

Chickie: Grrrhahahah, spot on with the school yard friends leaving one girl on the outside. Perfect observation!

Aunty: How are you and how are things with Uncle? Rami's dress was very good, but would you, a true Southern Belle, ever wear that print?
